There’s nothing cosier for a newborn than a good swaddle. It brings back all those in-the-womb feelings and leads, almost invariably, to a nicely settled baby.
I use swaddles all the time in newborn sessions – whether it’s to calm your baby down, to move them between props without disturbing them, or simply because they photograph well. The basic positioning doesn’t change much, but there’s more variety in how you can use them than you might expect.
The butterfly wrap is one of my favourites. It’s simple both in terms of keeping your baby settled and undisturbed, and in the finished result. Sometimes the simplest setups make for the best images.
