A maternity session can be a really fun way to announce your pregnancy or share the gender – either to keep as a memory for yourselves or to share with family and friends.
Why do it in a photo session?
It’s a nice way to document the moment properly rather than a quick phone snap. You’ve got professional lighting, a proper setup, and someone behind the camera who isn’t also trying to react at the same time.
Ideas that work well in the studio
There are lots of ways to approach it. Confetti cannons or balloons in pink or blue make for a dramatic reveal and photograph really well. Little shoes or a babygrow with “It’s a Boy” or “It’s a Girl” on it is a simpler, quieter option if that’s more your style. A chalkboard or letter board with your message works well too — and if you want to bring along an ultrasound picture, a personalised prop, or anything else that means something to you, there’s always room for that.
Smoke bombs in pink or blue are another option, though these work better outdoors, so worth a conversation beforehand if that’s something you’re interested in.
Making it yours
Whether you want something low-key or something with a bit more impact, we can work out what suits you before the session. I’ve got a range of backdrops, lighting options and props available, and I’m always happy to work around things you want to bring in yourself.
