Newborn Photography East Grinstead West Sussex
a sleeping newborn sitting on a swing and holding onto the strings

This newborn hammock might actually be the very first prop that I bought for photography.  I remember tracking someone down on the then, little known, Etsy and getting them to make it for me.

I was so excited when it arrived – newborn photography was still in it’s very early days in the UK and I really felt that I was ahead of the curve with an actual real life prop that I could use.  My tiny mind would have been blown if I’d seen the prop collection that I had today. Anyway, I digress…

The swing is a much later addition but still a gorgeous little prop.

Here’s the thing you need to know about the hammock and the swing. They are one of the most popularly requested props for a newborn photo shoot – and they’re gorgeous so it’s easy to see why. They also the one with the highest failure rates.

The reason for this is that babies are either fine with it or they hate it and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it.  With most of my other props, I have options on how to use them so I can change the set up to suit your baby and we have a much higher chance of getting them to cooperate. With this one, it’s either the hammock/swing way or the highway – there’s literally zero I can amend to increase their comfort levels and get them to play ball.

If you love them and you want either of them in your photo shoot, you should absolutely request it and I will do my best to give us the greatest chance of getting it. However, my advice would be also, if there’s another prop you like, then choose that as well as a backup, if we get all of them, then great!
