Everything about my lifestyle newborn set-ups is geared towards maximum baby comfort and minimum intervention.
That’s not to say that traditional newborn sessions make baby uncomfortable, but there is more posing involved, particularly when it comes to props. And conversely, a lifestyle session still involves me working with baby throughout to get the best images possible. It’s just a simpler, more relaxed way of working that creates a more at-home feel to the results.
The Moses basket is a good example of that approach. Newborns tend to love them – if they’re not sleeping on a parent, a Moses basket is often their preferred spot. It makes sense really. A cot must feel like a vast open space compared to where they’ve been spending their time until recently.
As well as being a naturally settled environment for baby, the basket can also be customised with blankets to match your colour scheme, and it’s a great spot to add props like florals or birth announcement details if you’d like to include them.
