Introducing a brand new way of photographing newborns in the studio – my natural newborn service.

This new way of photographing newborns has been a long time in development and is inspired by the trend towards more unposed, lifestyle newborn photography that’s been developing over the last couple of years in America.   I’ve always got a watchful eye on the USA for photography trends as it tends to follow that what goes on there, arrives in the UK sooner or later.  Cake smashes are one of the most obvious examples of this.
Even if I hadn’t been tracking the trends in America, it would have been pretty obvious that natural, lifestyle photos are becoming more popular.  One of the things I’ve noticed over the last couple of years is that more and more families are asking for ‘natural’ photos when it comes to their newborns. Don’t get me wrong, all of my great props and accessories will still be available if you want them but if natural photos with a more lifestyle feel are more your jam then you’ll have the chance to select a natural newborn session instead when you receive your options form.

These are more unposed sessions, making use of my bed set and / or the moses basket. Your baby won’t ever be naked (although we may strip them down to swaddle them), generally I’d recommend having them photographed in a plain sleepsuit or vest.

Items to bring along from home could include blankets, first toys, personalised signs, handmade items.

It’s the kind of session that’s perfect if you and older children want to get involved and because we are not intervening as much with your newborn, then it’s one that you could definitely say suits older ‘newborns’ who’ve passed the traditional two week window.

The bed set up offers us a neutral palette of whites and creams but we can add in splashes of colour with my range of blankets, wraps and even florals if that floats your boat.

As it’s a brand new service, I don’t have portfolio for you to see yet but here’s a link to my Pinterest mood board so you can get a flavour of where we’re going to be taking it…
