Ralph came in for a first birthday cake smash recently. There was cake, there was smiling, there were bubbles and a tub. Sounds like my kind of party.
Despite what it looks like, this isn’t a naked cake smash. It’s a bit of a Calendar Girls situation and he does have a nappy on. I once saw a photographer attempt an actual naked cake smash and it ended with a cake that got a very good watering. If there was any doubt it was a bad idea, they settled it for all of us. We started Ralph off in an outfit and stripped down to the nappy halfway through to give the finished gallery a bit more variety. He was entirely happy with both arrangements.
Cake smash outfits have become a whole thing of their own these days and there are lots of personalised options available if you want something made to match your theme. Equally, some families prefer to just use a normal outfit and that’s completely fine too. There aren’t really any rules for a cake smash. Well, maybe one, and that’s to have fun.
