Some stories stand the test of time, weaving their way through generations, passed down from parent to child with the same joy and wonder as when they were first read. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is one of those books.
First published in 1969, its bright, textured illustrations and simple, repetitive storytelling have made it a staple on nursery bookshelves across the world.
With its tiny protagonist munching its way through a week’s worth of delicious treats before transforming into a butterfly, this classic picture book introduces children to counting, days of the week, and even a little lesson in healthy eating (though we all know the real fun is in the cake, pie, and sausage!). But more than that, it’s a story of transformation—of growth, change, and becoming something new.
