Much of the work for a newborn session goes on when the session has finished and the images are safely back in my editing suite.

Of course all babies are beautiful but they have been underwater for a considerable period of time and so it’s normal for them to have some patches on their skin that can be a little dry and flaky.  They also often have red marks and scratches and all of these can be addressed in the post production process to give you back images that really reflect them at their best.   I’m careful that the end result should be natural – I’m not a fan of editing that gives you back a plastic looking baby –  and I never edit birthmarks out as they are part of your little one and should always be in the finished images.

So you can see in this before and after image of the exceptionally cute little guy, there was a bit of skin smoothing that went on and also a little digital de-frowning and he did have a bit of a furrowed brow even though he was actually sleeping really peacefully.  So after the session, your images can take a couple of weeks before they are ready to be seen so they can be given a little loving touch to make sure they are perfect for you.

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
