Newborn Photography East Grinstead West Sussex

I’ve been a newborn photographer for  a really long time and over this period, I have amassed a ton of cute props and accessories that you can use in your newborn shoot.

Way too many if you ask my husband who has been known to do a pretty emphatic eye roll when he sees me yet another package containing pretty stuff that I simply HAD to have.   Anyway, marital issues aside, I have a lot of stuff. Props, wraps, blankets, hats, headbands, flowers, large elephant – whatever and we can use as much of it as we fancy when you come to visit the studio.

However, I definitely also recommend bringing along some items of your own to include.  You don’t have to of course, you’re probably going to be busy so it doesn’t matter if you don’t but it is really nice to bring along things from home that will make your photos really personal to you.  If you’re not sure if an item will work, then I’d say bring it anyway.  I’m always up for a challenge and if we don’t use it, so what?  At least we had the option.  If you’re looking for inspo, popular items include

  • Hand knitted blankets and toys
  • Personalised blankets and comforters
  • Toys bought by special family members
  • Toys that match in with your nursery decor
  • Toys that belonged to parents and are now starting duty with a new generation
  • Heirloom items such as Christening blankets
  • Sports colours – shirts, scarves, mascots and flags
  • Hobby paraphernalia – hockey sticks, rugby balls, work tools etc
  • Commemorative jewellery with ashes so you can include people even if if they’ve passed on
  • Name plates and letter blocks
  • Little signs with phrases on that have been in the nursery or you’ve been gifted.

As you can see, the list goes on and that’s certainly not exhaustive!  Just bring along items if they mean something to you, and we’ll work them into your session.

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
