Before you come to your newborn photography session at my studio, you’ll receive an email which allows you to choose any props, digital backdrops and most importantly the colour schemes that you’d like to include.
Obviously it doesn’t work like a menu as I have no guarantee that your little one is going to be in the mood for everything that we’d like to do but it does give me some important information that I need to prep for your session and also an idea of the types of styles that you’re looking for in your finished newborn gallery. The form idea came out of my reopening following Lockdown 1.0 as I wanted to minimise your time in the studio and also all of my props and accessories are now stored either out of the way or behind plastic sheeting to minimise contamination risk so it’s not as easy for me to get to things on the fly as it was in the past. However, if I was looking for a positive from all the changes I have had to make to the studio in 2020, then this would be it and it will be here to stay.
Not only does it let me get set up in advance which saves you hanging around while I fetch things, it also allows me to have a (semi) targeted plan for the session which is going to be along the lines of your style and we can maximise your newborn’s sleepy moments so we don’t waste a second of them.
Many people choose a neutral white or grey colour scheme and it’s not that I don’t love that – the simplicity of it really does show off your baby, but I also love a bolder look and this combination of purple / lilac and dark wood is one of my favourites. Something about the way that the tones work together I just find really pleasing.
I know a lot of photographers pride themselves on having a signature style or combination of colours / props that captures their brand but I always find I’m a bit of a chameleon to be honest. I want your images to reflect your style, your personality and indeed your home decor, so I’ll work alongside you to make that happen. If you like to keep it simple and plain then great, if you like prop set ups and accessories then great too.
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
