So we all have those friends in our past that we remember very fondly and social media has certainly been excellent in keeping folk in touch when we’ve all scattered across the country after the college days have finished. This young lady’s mum is one such ‘old’ friend that I spent many a happy time with all through college and university who then (rather selfishly) moved up North to become a teacher 🙂

Anyway, we’ve kept in touch but it was an extra special treat to have her and her family come and visit the studio on one of her rare trips down South and also to shoot her beautiful daughter in the studio for a make over model experience to celebrate her 11th birthday.  She brought along three outfit changes – one casual, one party dress and one to celebrate a big love in her life which is ice skating and we had a lovely time creating lots of different styles image and all the while catching up with all the news.

As she was still only quite young, we kept the makeup light and fresh, just to add a little sparkle to that which she already brought to the studio and kept the poses and images age appropriate.  That’s really important to me in the studio as young girls quite often feel so much pressure to grow up fast – there’s loads of ways to create beautiful and fun images without asking them to act older than their years.

She really came alive when she had her skating outfit on and she was showing me some of the positions that they have to master which seem to me tricky enough on solid ground let alone on slippery ice!  Obviously she couldn’t actually skate in the studio but I did get her to put her skates on for a couple of shots and also I photographed them separately o create a little digital composite image which I just love.

All in all, it would have been a fun session with anyone but throw in a school reunion and it was just the best!
