These are a few of the images from Esta’s first birthday photo session including a smash the cake session, plus a tub splash (very useful for cleaning up afterwards as well as excellent fun!) Dad also managed to sneak in a few photos in her Manchester United football top as well.
Now Esta broke some new ground with this session. Its not uncommon for babies not to want to get their hands dirty – I mean, you’d think they would dive right into the cake and enjoy all that unfamiliar squishiness between their fingers but quite often they are not made keen on that part. With gentle encouragement, we work with them to build their confidence with this new experience and usually most of them can be persuaded to have a play (some more dainty than others) but luckily complete messiness isn’t essential to get a great set of smash the cake pictures. Esta however wasn’t interested in any encouragement and chose a quicker route to goal by completing the cake smash using only her feet! Babies can be surprisingly inventive when it comes to finding solutions and getting to what they want. So there you go, that’s how to do a cake smash without getting messy hands. Messy feet however is another matter…
