This is Tommy – he was born a couple of weeks early at a diminutive 4 pounds and 8 ounces – small but definitely perfectly formed.

So when he came to visit the studio at a week old, he was super sleepy and poseable.  I recommend that newborn photography takes place when your baby is between five and ten days old as this is when new babies are at their most dozy but when they have made their entrance to the world a little bit early than expected, this period can actually last a little bit longer – it’s a bit like their counter doesn’t start until their due date.  Anyway, Tommy was the most adorably dreamy little fellow, barely bothering to stir as I gently moved him around so we had plenty of time to create some gorgeous images of him.  Including this one in a little swaddle.

With a lot of babies, I’ll use swaddles and wraps to settle them but in Tommy’s case, it was just to look pretty.  Shooting a newborn against a navy backdrop might sound like the images would be a little harsh but I just love the contrast of the dark and light blues with his little sleepy face.

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
