I’ve been a photographer for 17 years or so and taking newborn pictures for five or six of those. So you kind of get to a point where you think that you really can’t get anything in a session that you haven’t worked with before but thankfully that’s never true. So presenting, the first octopus of my career!
It did take me a few goes to make it work I have to be honest, as I was trying to work it in a seated position (can an octopus sit?) but once I got it laid down the shot came together perfectly. Loads of arms to go round for cuddles with this furry buddy!
Jack was initially a little unsettled in the studio but after a good feed and a cuddle, we calmed him down with a wrap in a gorgeous grey and white muslin that his mum happened to have in her baby bag and once he was deeply asleep, he was pretty easy to unwrap and move about. He even stayed just about patient enough with us to get some lovely family shots at the end including that very tender one with dad…
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
