Parents of newborns don’t always feel like getting in front of the camera, and that’s completely understandable. I’ll always encourage it, but I get why it might not feel like the right moment.
One way to be in the photos without having to think about how you look is to include just your hands. This shot, In Daddy’s Hands, is a popular one for exactly that reason. It’s also a bit of camera trickery, because actually holding a newborn in the air like this would be far more than a little dicey. The baby is on the beanbag and we shoot from above to create the final image. Yes, it’s a small lie, but it’s a good one and I think we can let it slide.
