This gorgeous little fellow came to visit for his first official photo shoot along with his big sister and he was the perfect little model.

He took a little while to settle into his role as model which isn’t at all unusual. Only a handful of babies in all the years I’ve been doing this job have some along and been settled throughout their session so there’s certainly nothing to worry about if your baby wakes up and cries during their photo shoot.  Quite often a quick feed will settle them or a little rock and cuddle or sometimes, in this little man’s case, a little swaddle wrap will be enough to lull them back into the land of nod.  Between us, we will get them into that dreamy state that’s perfect for their photos to be taken.

With sibling, of course they’re welcome to join in but if they’re still quite little themselves, it can be a bit of a boring thing for them to sit through.  So what I recommend is that they go off with someone, usually dad, for a little wander to a park, soft play or a spot of food and then rejoin the session at the end when they’re fresh to it and ready for their pictures.  This has the added advantage of making the session more relaxing for mum as you can sit back and enjoy watching your pictures getting taken without having to provide entertainment for anyone else.  Just a little oasis of calm in a hectic time!

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
