This was a bit of a different newborn photo shoot as it was being done as a surprise for the new dad as he had very much wanted to have a picture of his little boy in his firefighter’s helmet while he was still small enough to fit.  He’d discounted arranging it himself as there just didn’t seem to be enough hours in the day but luckily his wife got in touch with me and we managed to squeeze in a last minute appointment to create these incredibly special images.    Obviously I know when the surprise was going to be sprung so I’m not spoiling anything by posting them on here!

There had been a bit of subterfuge involved in getting the helmet and boots out of the fire station (so the boss was in on the plot) and his clever wife even thought to take a photo of his locker so she could put everything back exactly as it was so he wouldn’t smell a rat.  Baby Henry was kind enough to be in a very sleepy and cooperative mood for the shoot and he even had his big sister there to keep him company and act as my assistant in  creating the images.  Obviously just putting a baby, even a very sleep baby, into a helmet could potentially result in disaster as the helmet could tip and fall or the baby could startle and knock themselves out onto the floor.  I prioritise safety in all of my sessions and so the images where the baby is in the helmet are a composite of multiple images where the baby is supported at all times and then the supporting hands are digitally removed when I get the images on my screen.  Perfectly safely created and really wonderful results that I just know his firefighter dad is going to be thrilled with!

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
