Jack is pictured here with the same toy monkey that his big brother was photographed with at his own newborn session. I think we might be witnessing the start of a family tradition.
I never try to replicate a sibling’s photos exactly – they’re different people and the sessions should reflect that – but there’s something nice about a nod to a previous session, and the images tend to work really well displayed together.
Jack was wide awake here but perfectly happy, snuggled up with his monkey friend. He did go off to sleep when he was ready. The aim with newborn photography is always to photograph your baby while they’re asleep, which is why getting into the studio before two weeks old matters – ideally somewhere between five and ten days. But sometimes you get a baby who is awake and completely content, and those images are worth capturing too.
