This was a fun newborn photo shoot with the adorably named Marley and his mum and dad had some quite specific ideas about how they wanted things styled. It’s not essential to have an idea of exactly what you want before you come but it’s fun when you can give me an idea of what you’re looking for so I can work to getting you images that I know you’ll love.
The brief for this was to keep the tones natural and earthy so we started with my dark wood backdrops and floor, a chocolate brown blanket backdrop and then one of my very favourite digital backdrops. Digital backdrops can be a bit of a contentious issue as some folk love the process of actually seeing their images come to life in front of them but I have to accept that, while I would love to have every prop that I fall in love with (and there’s a lot) that I actually don’t have the space. The digital backdrops allow me to create more variety whilst still being able to work in the studio without falling over tiny beds.
Marley was an extremely smiley baby – yes, you can say it’s wind but I’m pretty sure it’s just sweet dreams – and we had so much fun creating his images. His mum and dad actually brought him in that adorable knitted romper (from the Zara baby collection) and it could have been designed with a newborn photo shoot in mind. We also took a twist on the baby announcement set and arranged all of Marley’s vital statistics around my dark wood miniature bed – love how it turned out and absolutely perfect for a christening invitation or a birth announcement card.
Like I say, it’s certainly not obligatory to know what you want when you come but if you fancy taking a look through some of my blog posts and galleries, you’re always welcome to screen shot what appeals to you to give me an idea of the kind of style that you love.
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
