Having just celebrated Mother’s Day in the UK, I’ve been thinking a lot about how special that mother-daughter relationship can be. Not that mothers and sons don’t also have an incredible bond but there is something different about looking at your daughter and seeing a miniature version of yourself. That’s true whether your daughter is just a little girl, a full grown adult or anywhere in between.
Mums, however, are notoriously tricky to get in front of the camera. They’ve likely spent their whole lives fussing over everybody else and being the one behind the camera capturing the memories. Actually, one of the phrases I hear most often in the studio is “No, not me. Just the kids”. Still I bet there’s more than a little regret floating around when those mums look at all of their photos of the kids having fun and they’re not in them.
Time to fix it I think.
So booking an appointment at my studio in West Sussex, means that the time is set aside just for mums. It can be blocked out of that busy calendar and you can spend some time focused simply on making memories. Plus, it’s a good excuse for some light shopping and perhaps a little pamper session to really make the most of it.
Whether the photo shoot be between a mother and her very young daughter, a teenager or a grown woman with children of her own, it’s a very special thing to photograph. The resulting photos take on the quality of heirlooms and will be so very much treasured by all the family.
That’s not to say that a mother-daughter photo shoot has to be terribly serious and formal. Not by any means. It’s all about capturing your relationship and if that’s full of silliness and giggles, then so much the better. We also take the time to capture some details – your hands together, nose to nose, those matching facial features.
Having said that, it doesn’t have to be a formal affair, it is always nice to reserve at least a little slot in your session when you get your best dresses on and go for a little glamour. Lots of high street retailers are doing twinning outfits these days and coordinating posh frocks and party dresses is part of the fun. And if the dress swishes and swirls and makes you feel like a princess then it’s all good.
A mother – daughter photo shoot make an amazing gift for your mum or for that mum and daughter in your life who you know are way overdue creating some photographic memories together.
A session in the studio includes your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery (no annoying sales meeting to sit through). The cost is £95 and the images are priceless.
