If you know me, you’ll know I love a theme and so let’s keep things going this week on the blog by looking at more ways to use neutral shades in your photo shoot.
In this image, my mini dark wood newborn bed is styled up with my beige bedding set and shot from a different angle to create a little more variety in your gallery. All of my props have been curated to offer as many ways to style them and to shoot them so we can create lots of different images for you to enjoy with the minimum amount of disruption for your newborn. I’ve seen many newborn photographers work for extended periods to create one shot in one set up, but I’ve kind of taken the opposite approach.
My sessions and planning are designed to move your baby as little as possible but generate as many different images from one set up. To me, this approach just makes logical sense. Why needlessly disturb a sleeping newborn when you can follow the path of least resistance. For example, in this shot, I’ve set up a layered bedding set that looks just as good shot from the front of the prop as from the top and I’m working with a swaddled baby that I’ve literally just lifted from the beanbag and replaced onto the bed with zero fuss. When a baby is swaddled, it’s so much easier to move and pose them without bothering them in the slightest and with my specially designed swaddle wrap that sits underneath the part you can see, we can also re-wrap them fairly easily to change up the styling while still keeping them snug as bugs in rugs!
When it comes to newborn photography, I’ve used all of my experience to design sessions that let us work smarter and not harder to give you lots and lots of choice in your finished images so you can choose exactly what you want to treasure as your memories of those early days.
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
