One of the most common questions that I get asked is how to know when to book your newborn photo shoot for.
Obviously you don’t normally know when your little one is going to arrive exactly and they’re not very good at turning up on time – only 4% of babies actually arrive on their predicted date. However, if you wait until your baby arrives before booking a session, it’s pretty easy to get involved in newborn life and by the time you look up, you’ve missed the newborn photography window of when your baby was 5-10 days old (and definitely in their first two weeks). I always do my best to accommodate late bookings but it’s not always possible to find space when we’re working within a really narrow time window so that can be an issue too.
So it’s really a good idea to book while you’re still pregnant, any time after your 20 week scan is good but that of course raises the question of when to book. The solution in the studio is really simple though – we simply book for your due date plus seven days and then adjust the session as we need to. So if they arrive early, you just let me know and we bring it forward and I’ll be in touch the week before to check if they’ve arrived and if we need to move it back a bit, then that’s fine. I keep a couple of days in the calendar each week that no-one can book but me so I always know I can find space if I need to.
Simple as that…
Booking your Newborn Session
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
