I’m more accustomed to seeing this family at the studio as they have been coming to me for family photography at various intervals for nearly three years. However, they were holding a joint first and twenty-first birthday party for their oldest and youngest daughters and they asked me to come along and cover the event for them. Obviously I was delighted both to share in the day with them and also to visit the lovely Highley Manor Hotel in West Sussex.
I arranged to meet the family there a little earlier than the guests were scheduled to arrive so we had some time to do some more ‘formal’ family portraits before the party began. Not only would that leave mum and dad free to be the hosts but also to give the littlest kids less distractions – once the guests arrived and there’s fun to be had, I wouldn’t blame them for not wanting to pose for photos. I then stayed for the first part of the party to capture informal photos of the guests enjoying themselves, the kids playing in Highley Manor’s lovely grounds as well as the decorations and cakes.
The family had all got together to coordinate their clothing so the finished photos look really stunning. Having a professional photographer at your party or special event is a great way to take an opportunity when all the family are in one place to get some portraits as well as to capture the events and celebrations of the day.
