Newborn photography is a very precious thing for so many reasons. I quite often write about how it is a wonderful way to remember those amazing, crazy, sleep deprived and full of wonder early days that fly by so quickly.
Sometimes though, these images are important for other reasons and I love to hear the stories from the families that I work with about how they’re feeling and how they reached this point in their journey. This image is just packed full of meaning for the proud parents of little Finley and one that they specifically requested that we create. They had brought along scan pictures from various stages of little Finley’s short life so far and we arranged them in date order from top to bottom. The finished image and his perfect t-shirt marked the end of a long and challenging journey to get him into their arms and I’m very proud to have been able to create a very visual reminder of his first few days on their behalf.
There were a number of highlights in this photo shoot actually, not least the very charming little man himself. One of my favourite things ever was the knitted Thor costume that they brought along with them as this was his nickname before he was born (you can see it if you hop on over to my Instagram) And yes, in case you were wondering, there was a tiny knitted hammer. Sometimes, as a photographer, you feel that you’ve seen most of the props that the world of newborn photography has to offer and then life gives you a little gift like this. What a wonderful way to make a living I have!
So newborn photography can be a wonderful way to create memories of those tiny toes, peach fuzz backs and fluffy heads of hair that soon disappear along your new arrival’s journey. And sometimes, they can mark the very beautiful end of a tough journey and remind you of your very greatest achievement.
Newborn Photography
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
