My client had fallen in love with the idea for this photo a few years ago and always wanted to recreate with her own family, except she knew she wasn’t quite finished building it yet! She came to see me for newborn photos when she had her last baby, and then when she was back in four months later for her first baby photography club appointment, she made a special request that we finally create this image for her.
So we did all of the usual baby photos of her smallest family member and she made sure everyone was there (with clean feet) to set up this shot at the end of the session. There was some puzzling earlier in the day by me on how to set it up without the duvet being over the baby’s face but we managed to create a kind of tent affair so he wasn’t suffocating under there. I should also say that I admire the family’s commitment to the concept as it was the hottest day of the year and they all had to get under a fairly thick duvet for five minutes which can’t have been a very comfortable experience! Still love the resulting image and how it was a great chance to make the mum’s wish for this picture of her own family come true.
Of course, normally a family portrait session would feature slightly more of the family than this but it’s a lovely idea to build in as part of the session. So if you are coming in for a family photo shoot, and you have ideas that you’ve seen and would love to incorporate into your session then just get in touch and I’m always happy to help.
