Digital Skin Editing at a Baby Photo Shoot

Babies are famous for having great skin – as smooth as a baby’s skin is a widely used phrase.  I’ve never really understood this though because if you’ve ever seen a baby, it’s flat out not true!

Newborns can have a combination of flakes, jaundice, purple areas and heaven knows what else and as children grow and get mobile, they can have all manner of bumps, scratches, teething rashes and general redness.  That’s not a criticism of children of course – it’s all perfectly natural but it can be a bit distracting in the finished images that you want to hang on the wall.

So a degree of skin editing does occur to your images to remove any blemishes that are not permanent to your little one.  That way, your memories are just them at their perfect best.

So if you’re coming for a photoshoot and your baby has given themselves a bit of a good scratch, or a bump on the noggin then don’t panic, we can get rid of it.  There are some exceptions however of things that I can’t remove…

• Any injury that changes a child’s face shape substantially, so any large areas of swelling
• Marks that cross lash lines, nostrils or lip lines. Reconstruction here can be tricky and create an artificial look.
• Snot.  Not a pleasant topic I grant you but I can’t rebuild nostrils so a good old clean on arrival at the studio and generally wiping throughout the session is a must!
• Conjunctivitis and eye infections, they’re always going to show…

If you’re not sure if something will be able to be removed from your images at your photo shoot, then just get in touch with a photo to check before you come and we can always reschedule if we need to!  I’d much rather do that than have you disappointed in your pictures.
