This is Noah, getting messy (and then clean) at his cake smash and tub splash first birthday photo shoot. I haven’t seen him since he was just a few days old for his newborn photos and so it was lovely to catch up with him again and see the difference that twelve months has made – transforming him from a sleepy newborn into a proper little man with a very cheeky grin and a penchant for raspberries and cream.

His mum made his cake smash cake and she didn’t want him to completely overdose on sugar as he hasn’t really ever had it before so she chose to fill it full of raspberries (his favourite) and cover it in cream.  He certainly seemed to appreciate it! Sometimes, cake can be a bit of a unfamiliar substance for your little one – it’s not everyday that they get a delicious sweet treat of that size plonked in front of them and then get given free rein with it.  As a general rule, not much cake usually gets eaten (although there are exceptions where I like to think we witness the start of a lifelong love affair with cake) but a fair bit of icing can get consumed.  So a cream is a good alternative if you’re worried about sugar content and sometimes we’ve even been known to hide favourite fruit inside the cake in order to persuade them to get digging for something they know that they love.

After his cake, it was time to clean up in the tub where he instantly gave himself a brilliant bubblebeard – bit of a pro model this one! A lovely way to celebrate that first birthday – fun and great images into the bargain.
