Cake smash photo shoots have been around in the UK, at least in the mainstream for about five years I think.  At least that is when I started to do them and back then, I had to explain to a lot of people what they actually were.  Now they’re quite a common part of the first birthday celebrations and they really serve two purposes – to have a giggle and to create some great photographic memories of the end of a completely mad life changing first year for everyone involved.

So when you book a cake smash, you’ll get the information about the things that you need to bring along with you – the most obvious being a cake of course. When you arrive at the studio, the first thing you need to do is make some decisions about how you’d like your cake smash to look, along with your tub splash as well if you’re doing it.  We make all the decisions up front so I can get everything set up and ready for you – it’s a lot easier to make decisions before you’re also wrestling with an icing covered baby!

Decision one – which tub would you like?  I have two to choose from – a vintage tin tub and a miniature white rolltop one.

Decision two – which backdrop would you like?  I have loads of these from plain white to vintage shutters and doors with a couple of floors added in so you can create your perfect mix and match look for your shoot.

Decision three – which accessory set would you like for the tub splash?  I have a range of accessory sets from my ever popular duck themed set through to nautical and vintage laundry looks.

Decision four – which bunting would you like?  If you’ve ever been to my studio, you’ll know that there’s a lot of this and I make more all the time.  Some of them match accessory sets but you’re free to choose what you’d like to accent your theme or colours.

Phew!  Once you’ve decided all this, I set everything up and away we go.  We start with a clean shoot, then get out the cake and start exploring.  Then finally, it’s bath time with a tub full of warm and bubbly water – cleaning up and splashing about – everyone’s a winner there!

A cake smash and tub splash photo shoot is the perfect way to celebrate and commemorate that extra special first birthday.   We start with a clean shoot and mum and dad are welcome to get involved here as well for family pictures if you’d like to.  Then it’s time to get out the cake for some smashing fun!  After that, it’s time to fill your choice of tub with warm and bubbly water for more great pictures and a good old icing removal clean up.  Each session includes your five favourite digital images (chosen from your online gallery, there’s no sales session) and costs £95.
