Cake Smash and Tub Splash First Birthday Photo Shoot – Zachary

This session is the last in Zachary’s Joey Club journey and I’ll miss his cheeky smile that’s for sure.  However, I do like to think that we ended with some considerable style with a cake smash and tub splash first birthday photo shoot.

We started with a clean shoot – some family photos and some of Zachary on his own before we got to the messy part of the session. Zachary is already walking (and walking quick at that) and so keeping him still was always going to be a challenge but he was happy enough to pose for the camera for long enough to capture his cheeky side.

Then we moved onto the cake smash part of the session – and I’d like to point out the completely fabulous blue ombre cake that his mum made.  Apparently, Zachary was also very impressed with it and thought it far to beautiful to smash up as he wasn’t so keen on wrecking it.  That’s quite common with babies, the taste and texture is new to them for the most part and they don’t always get on board with the stickiness of the experience. As much as mum and dad tried to persuade him that cake was a fabulous thing, he just wasn’t buying it.  The good news is that you don’t actually need to have a lot of smashing to get great cake smash images – OK I realise that kind of flies in the face of the title of the shoot but it’s true.  Its fun if they end up covered in icing but not essential and I still love Zachary’s cake smash photos.  Dad was also pleased as there was loads of cake to take him so everyone was a winner.

Anyway, for babies that don’t like to get messy or for those that are plastered in butter icing, the tub splash part of the session is nearly always popular.  I guess it’s something that’s more familiar to them and who doesn’t love splashing around in warm bubbly water? Well, Zachary certainly did and he was also greatly entertained by my bubbles – I have a bubble machine that churns out an impressive amount which saves a lot of dipping and puffing into a bubble wand.

So a great session to finish his baby photography club membership and to celebrate the end of an amazing year for him and his family.
