Tights and socks come up more than you’d think when it comes to baby photo shoots, so it’s worth a quick word before your session.

I’m not anti-tights in general, but on smaller babies they often don’t fit well enough to look great in photos. They can bag at the feet or bunch on the legs, and baby feet are genuinely one of the best things to photograph. The studio will be lovely and warm, so bare legs are my recommendation if your baby is wearing a dress.

If the tights or socks are important to the outfit, that’s absolutely fine, but it’s worth finding a pair that fit neatly rather than ones that are slightly too big.

One thing to bear in mind with a dress and bare legs: there’s a good chance the nappy will make an appearance. If that’s likely, I’d suggest a nappy cover, a little pair of knickers, or some bloomers underneath. That way we’re not spending half the session rearranging the dress, and those lovely baby thighs get their moment in the spotlight. Wins all round.
